If you are an adventure traveler and love to visit magnificent mountain destinations, you will love the Everest Base Camp Trekking Trail. Experiencing the Everest Himalayas and the culture of the Sherpa people can be a lifetime memory for everyone. There are hundreds of adventure travelers on this trail every day during the high hiking seasons, so you can also plan to visit here this autumn 2023. Autumn and spring are two major trekking seasons to trek to Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu.
Trekking to Everest Base Camp is a 12-day walking trip from Kathmandu to Kathmandu, which begins with a short scenic flight to Lukla. After landing at Lukla Airport, you start walking towards Phakding through typical Sherpa villages like Chheplung, Thadokoshi, and Ghat. You will see captivating landscapes, river valleys, green forests, white mountains, monasteries, and other Buddhist monuments along the way today. It is a short walking day from Lukla to Phakding, and most of the trails descend except for some short ascents.
After the first night's stay in Phakding, you trek to Namche Bazaar on the second day and stay there on the third day. You hike to Hotel Everest View for altitude practice on the rest day in Namche and go to Tengboche on the fourth day. You see pristine mountain views every moment after you cross Namche Bazaar.
Tengboche is located on a hill station, from which you can see stunning panoramic views of high mountains. You can also visit ancient historical monasteries and join regular worship with the monks in the evening. After Tengboche, you walk to Dingboche on the fifth day. From today, you will be above the tree line and see open views all the time. You will have the second acclimatization rest in Dingboche on the sixth day and hike up to Nangkartshang Hill.
After being well-acclimatized after the second altitude practice rest, you trek to Lobuche on the seventh day. You will cross Thukla before reaching Lobuche, where you will see many memorials of dead climbers. After Lobuche, you trek to Gorakshep and hike to Everest Base Camp on the ninth day. You will start walking earlier from Lobuche than on the other trekking days because the base camp hike makes the day long.
On the ninth day, you hike to Kala Pathar early in the morning, which takes around 2 hours to reach from Gorakshep. Then, you trek to Pheriche through Lobuche and Thukla. Alternatively, you can directly fly to Kathmandu from Gorakshep on a helicopter if you do not have enough time to trek back to Lukla or are not interested in walking back on the same trails that you passed on your way up.
You can also go over Cho La Pass to go to Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri if you have 2-3 extra days with the regular Base Camp Trekking itinerary. After Pheriche, you walk back to Namche Bazaar on the tenth day and to Lukla on the eleventh day and stay overnight in Lukla to wait for the flight. On the twelfth morning, you fly out to Kathmandu or Ramechhap and arrive back in the city with a lifetime Everest experience.
