An Overview of the MOMA scholarshipPosted by motachashma on August 14th, 2016 The Government of India has its Minority welfare department which looks after the educational requirements of the minority students. Minority students are those students who belong to the minority communities of India like those of Islam, Sikhs, Parsi, Jains, Buddhists and Christians. If the minority students come from an economically backward family then they can apply for a Merit cum Means scholarship from the Minority Welfare department. There are different types of Minority scholarship provided by the government. There are some which are exclusively for the girl child, while others are for pre matric and post matric minority students. The MOMA scholarship however is a Merit cum Means scholarship and is meant exclusively for students who want to pursue higher education after their 12thstandard exams. It is a higher education scholarship which is meant to encourage parents to send their children for higher education and it also encourages the students to pursue their dream of higher education. The scholarship is chiefly paid in two parts- the entire course fee which is transferred directly to the bank account of the institution and the maintenance fee which is transferred to the bank account of the student. The allocation of the scholarship is done by the state or the Union territories to its respective students. There is a reservation of 30% for the girl child under the MOMA scholarship. However, if there are not enough girls then the scholarship is given to some other meritorious candidate.
