What is prolapsed uterus and how can you treat it?

Posted by Uterus Prolapsed on August 26th, 2016

The uterus, or womb, is said to be prolapsed when it has moved down from its normal location. This can happen when the tissues that usually support the uterus i.e. the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments, become overextended and feeble. The uterus drips down the vagina closer to the vaginal opening, sometimes even protruding through it.

Prolapsed uterus symptoms

•    A feeling of fullness or heaviness in the pelvis (it may be defined as a feeling of sitting on a small ball)
•    Low back pain
•    Feeling that something is coming out of the vagina
•    Aching sexual intercourse
•    Trouble with urination or moving the bowels
•    Difficulty walking

Diagnosis

First-degree prolapse

To find out if you have first-degree prolapse, you will require an internal examination. Your physician will ask you to unclothe from the waist down and lie back on the examination table while they feel for any swellings or bumps in your pelvic region. When being inspected, you might be asked to lie on your side so the doctor can judge the degree and type of prolapse better.

Second- and third-degree prolapse

Second- and third-degree prolapse can be spotted without internal examination as the uterus can be seen outside the vaginal opening.

When to see a doctor?

Uterine prolapse doesn't necessitate treatment unless it is severe. If your signs and symptoms become troublesome and interrupt your normal activities, make an appointment with your physician to discuss your treatment options. These days, many people prefer to take the route of Ayurvedic treatment of uterus prolapsed.
