Want to use load boards? We offer tips for carriers and freight brokers in this guide.

Load boards can be found all over the Internet, some free and others requiring a monthly subscription fee. The debate as to which type is better for freight brokers and motor carriers will continue, but one thing everyone can agree on is that you need to use these services the right way so it benefits your company. Here are some suggestions.

Research the Load Boards: there are a lot of these load boards online and while they have the same function and goal, the way it’s done varies. Some are very good and others are not, so do your research first. Get to know the board’s features and if they have the stuff your company needs to be successful.

Watch Your Budget: if you’re on a paid load board, keep an eye on your budget as well as any other expenses you incur while using the load board. It might not seem much if you pay 40 bucks a month for a load board membership, but really the most you should ideally pay is 30 bucks, and as already mentioned, some load boards are even free for trucking brokers.

Keep an Eye on the ROI: you invest time and money on a load board, so the question is, is it paying off? How many clients are you getting? Do they pay well? Do clients call you back for return services? If you’re spending on that load board, it better be providing you with clients that help your business, otherwise it’s useless.

Add a Company Profile: if you’re a carrier and facing stiff competition, the best way to stay a step ahead is to put up a good profile. Let brokers and shippers know your company has what it takes to serve them. Provide information about your truck fleet size, the kinds of fleet you can handle and what locations you can travel to.

The more details you provide the better off you’re going to be in terms of getting clients, but do not overdo it. Stick with the pertinent facts and you’re going to get the results you are looking for. This also increases the number of freight brokers you will meet, which is good for business.

Other Tips and Advice

Do not settle for the first loads you see: there are a lot of options available so take your time and figure out which one is most suited for your service. The type of client you get is important, but it is also crucial that you look at the possible long term possibilities and if these are the clients you want to work with in the future.

For trucking brokers and carriers, these loads present an opportunity to improve business and expand their profit potential, so take advantage.
