Droopy Eyes Lift ? 3 Things to Consider Before Surgery

Eyelid Surgery or blepharoplasty might just be what you need to deal with your droopy eyelids and gain a more youthful and alert appearance. But like any patient, you must have a lot of questions in your mind. What exactly happens during an eyelid surgery? How long is the Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery can be an option to treat droopy eyelids. The procedure removes and tightens excess skin, muscle, fat, and tissue around the eyes to restore a youthful appearance and to make them more alert. A droopy eyes lift may be what you need if your eyelids have drooped to the extent where they are already obstructing your vision. The surgery may improve your vision and help you see clearly again without loose skin hanging over your eyes. The eyelid lift may be the solution to elevate the upper eyelid marginally slightly, especially when the excess skin has become too heavy, resulting in the drooping. There are three important things you must consider before signing up for eyelid lift:

  1. It can be done for cosmetic or medical purposes – Cosmetic eyelid surgery seeks to improve your physical appearance, but if the drooping is too severe and it is affecting the way you see, then it can be considered for medical purposes. A cosmetic procedure may be necessary due to the aging process, which causes the upper lids to sag and droop as the skin becomes loose, the fat pockets bulge and become prominent, and the muscles weaken. Before surgery, you need to consult with the qualified blepharoplasty surgeon who will conduct the procedure to determine the cause of your droopy eyelids.
  1. Oculoplastic surgeons and ophthalmologists must perform the procedure – For best results, make sure that a certified and fully trained ophthalmologist or oculoplastic surgeon will conduct the eyelid lift. Some maxillofacial and oral surgeons, ENT surgeons, and general surgeons are capable of performing the surgery, too, but be sure to verify their experience in conducting eyelid lifts and ask to see before and after pictures.
  1. Do I really need an eyelid lift? - Like any type of surgery, an eyelid lift may cause some downtime and can put you at risk for infections. Hence, it is important to consult with the surgeon first before proceeding with the procedure. Functional blepharoplasty may be recommended if your droopy eyelids are impairing your vision or they make it difficult to wear contact lenses and eyeglasses. Surgery may be necessary if the excess folds of your eyelid skin are already rubbing together, causing irritation, and if you feel any discomfort in your forehead due to overused and strained muscles around the eyelid area.
