Your Natural Mattress should contain these Three Excellent Materials

Most mattresses are made of purely synthetic materials such as polyurethane foam, nylon and petroleum-based polyester. These have been known to emit a lot of volatile organic compounds. They are also treated with flame retardants, chemicals like boric acid, phosphates and silicone. Flame resistant materials like polyvinyl chloride and melamine are used

Purchasing a Natural or Organic mattress is the healthy way to go. The natural materials include:

1. Natural wool

This is a comfortable and a natural mattress material. Woolen mattresses are comfortable to lie on. Wool is a natural insulator, thus perfect for winter. Wool will keep you cool in the summer. Despite the absence of synthetic flame retardants, Natural wool is flame resistant.

There should be minimal use of pesticides & herbicides on the Sheep or fields where they graze. Cleaning, carding and garnetting of the wool are done without synthetic chemicals or solvents. This natural and untreated wool is dust and mite resistant and will give you the most comfortable sleep .

2. Organic latex

This is a product of the rubber tree. It is hypoallergenic and very comfortable to sleep on. The latex is obtained from the rubber trees’ sap and processed using either the Talalay or the Dunlop process. The true natural latex used on mattresses is pure, comfortable, durable and sustainable. This makes an organic mattress the best choice of mattress for you and your family

3. Organic cotton

Cotton fiber is used to make a cotton mattress. The cotton fibers are inexpensive and therefore they are a better choice for the natural mattress. The comfort from cotton mattresses is from the air trapped in the cotton strands. Organic cotton is grown without pesticides & fertilizers, thus appropriate for sleeping as there will be no offgassing of harmful chemicals. It is also hypoallergenic and in most cases, it will be wrapped in wool layers because of it being a natural fire retardant. Of course if you are sleeping on an organic mattress you should also purchase organic sheets
