If you have been thinking about getting pendant track lighting installed in your home, you are about to make a very good choice. Not only are track lighting systems highly cost effective but also, give a very decent look to the immediate surroundings. Once you are aware of all the main components that make up the typical track lighting kits, you would have a better understanding of how these are always more practical than conventional lighting systems.

Usually divided into track heads and pendants, track lighting also consists of the following main elements, all essential in their own ways, serving distinct purposes.

Tracks: A distance of at least 18 inches must be maintained between the tracks and the walls. These help in planning the proper layout for the installation of the lights. Also, these should be at a very good distance away from furnishings like curtains as they can cause sudden fires if brought in touch with flammable household objects.

Feed-ins: These should be chosen according to the voltage system that you plan to pick. It could either be line voltage or low voltage, both having their distinct advantages. However, the former is easier to install than the latter.

End caps: Depending on single or dual circuits, the choice of end caps would differ. Their compatibility also changes in case of differing track kits. They are often finished for a decent look as they cover up the ends of the tracks and should give a neat overall look to the whole lighting system.

Pendants: These are the most fun part of a track lighting system. Available in endless shapes, sizes and finishes, these pendants are what draw all the attention. So, you can pick them to match with your room decor or use them as unique designer pieces for the ceiling.

Transformers: Necessary precautions must be taken for dealing with voltage fluctuations. Transformers usually work well in residential wiring but you might want to read the detailed information before going for a particular kind of transformer, whether or not included in the lighting kit itself.

Connectors: These are either of a straight design or a more flexible kind. Installed at every 3 feet along the track line, connectors can be used to customize the design of the lighting system.

The lamps: There can be a lot of variation in the kind of lamps that are used in a track system. From LED to old-fashioned bulbs, you can choose the lamps based on the kind of kit you have picked.
