Remember These Points Before You Download Music Royalty Free

Whether you need to download production music for a multi-media project or a particular kind of soundtrack for small duration videos, royalty free is the best way to go about it. Not only does that help in saving your money but also gives you the license to use the music in your later projects. However, there are a few things that you must remember before you download music royalty free and here is the list.

  • There is a difference between copyright-free and royalty free.
Under the laws that govern the Intellectual Property Rights, every invention or creative product including music, art, dance form etc gets an automatic copyright the moment it is created. There is no separate legal procedure that needs to be followed for registering a copyright. Royalty-free, on the other hand, is just the freedom from having to pay again and again for a particular license to use that music. So, while your chosen track may be royalty-free, it is not copyright free. To make it simpler, you are only buying the rights to use the music and not the ownership or credit for its creation.

  • Not every royalty-free music piece is open for repeated use.
Upon purchasing the license to use a music piece, even if it is royalty-free, you cannot assume that you can use it multiple times in all your future projects. While it is true that you won’t have to pay anything if that music is played as a part of your video multiple times. The difference is that you cannot use the same music in other videos or presentations unless the license clearly states otherwise.

  • Be wary of where you buy the music from.
Not every platform that claims to sell royalty-free music can be trusted. You should be very careful about such sites and check for their authenticity. Once that is confirmed and you are absolutely sure about their reliability, only then should you buy from them. There are many ways of confirming this authenticity. You can get in touch with them to first check for their legitimacy. Also, you can simply check if the site is verified by Google by looking for the verified icon on the address bar. Apart from that, the very document that states the terms and conditions can convey a lot about the company and its download policies.

You should know that not buying from authentic sources can lead to walk a tightrope every time your video is played in public. Anyone out of anywhere could be familiar with the tracks you use and if they raise an objection and you’ve not got the appropriate licenses, you could get into legal trouble.
