If you drive cars frequently, you must know the importance of gears in a vehicle. The gears make the process of driving easier and faster when you apply and change them according to the situation. Changing of gears is made possible by gear shifts that have different cables held by a bushing, attached to them. Your vehicle can come to a halt if any of these cables get damaged and it could not move further until the cable is repaired. Long ago, repairing or replacement of shift cables requires much effort as you have to take out the entire transmission cable and disintegrate many interior parts such as seats and carpets of the vehicle before it is ready to move. But now, you can use ready-made bushing repair kits to do this job conveniently.

Before starting the process of gear shift cable replacement, you need to confirm whether your vehicle is really having trouble due to gear shift linkage problems or not. It can be performed by moving the shift lever to reverse the vehicle. You will notice that the lever is moving easily but there is no movement in the vehicle. When you look more closely, you will see that the transmission cable is not attached to the lever and the bushing that holds the cable has been damaged. It confirms that your vehicle is stuck due to the shift cable malfunction and you need to fix it before moving further.

With the help of a repairing kit and some guidance, you can replace the gear shift cable by yourself. Firstly, you need to block the wheels of the vehicle to stop it from moving. After that, you have to get hold of the shift cable end which is underneath the vehicle and on the front right side of the driver's seat. You will find the bushing hanging down slightly that you can remove with the help of a screwdriver. Then, you should install a cup over the pierced end of the bushing and fix it by pushing in such a way that the tip of the cup is pointed towards the driver's side. After the bushing is put in its place tightly, you can pull out the cup and the vehicle is now ready to start.

Many companies are selling bushing repairing kits in different sets online, which you can access over the internet. You can order any of these kits according to the specifications of your vehicle you own.
