Fetal stem cells ? Hype or hope

Posted by Elite Internet Technologies on October 14th, 2016

When fetal stem cells were discovered, the scientific, medical and biological professions were stunned, with good reason. It was a colossal breakthrough in a quite unexpected form. Nobody was quite prepared for a do-everything class of human cells. Nor, originally, was anyone too sure what could be done with these cells.

The next logical step was to consider possible therapeutic options. The result was a menagerie of different ideas, different methods and different results. In some cases, the therapies were out of their depth. Nobody was quite sure whether they’d work, and early cases produced a very mixed bag of results and non-results.

The hype, in these cases, didn’t live up to the hope. That’s now changing, with a decade or so of more research and more information to back it up. The hope is now based on a degree of surety which wasn’t possible in the early days.

Treatments are now being tried on a range of truly difficult, and for conventional medicine, very dangerous, medical conditions. Spinal cord injury therapy, for instance, which is a terrible, incredibly complex condition, is one of the new candidates for treatment. The treatment of spinal cord injury in conventional treatments is often very demanding; stem cell therapy is showing a lot of possibilities. Other options include Lyme’s disease treatment and a host of other options. Treatment of this disease is often problematic, and any good, straightforward approach could deliver massive benefits to sufferers.

The bottom line here is that stem cell therapies offer a range of potentially extremely useful choices for very difficult medical conditions. Many of these medical conditions may involve patients requiring treatment for the rest of their lives, an enormous expense in each case, with a very dubious quality of life.

The good news is that the hope is now outrunning the hype. That decade of development hasn’t been wasted. A company called Stem Cell of America offers a wide range of stem cell therapies for very difficult medical conditions.
