As we are aware about the fact that India is signatory to Apostille Treaty and therefore falls in the list of the Hague Convention Countries. Because India accepts and acknowledges Apostille Treaty, therefore India has its Apostille Stamp that can be acknowledged worldwide and Apostille certificates or Apostille documents that are Indian originated certificates like Indian birth Certificate Apostille, Indian Degree Certificate Apostille, Indian Marriage Certificate Apostille, etc. All the countries enlisted in the Hague Convention countries have entitled a body of the government in their countries to issue Apostille Stamp. India, for this purpose had entitled Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India to do Certificate Apostille Authentication. MEA is the authority that put Indian Apostille Stamp to the certificates, be it Educational, Non- Educational or Commercial Certificate, and is also often referred to as MEA Apostille Stamp.

Now Talking about the Ministry of External Affairs- MEA Apostille Procedure. To follow the MEA Indian Apostille Procedure, you have to contact Ministry of External Affairs through an accredited agent Company because Ministry of External Affairs has contracted out all the managerial work of collecting, scrutinizing and delivering of the certificates to the private companies. First of all any original Indian Certificate, requiring Ministry of External Affairs- MEA Apostille Certificate attestation, must first be pre-authenticated by the designated authorities of the State/Union Territory from where the certificate was initially issued.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) thereafter, Apostille certificates on the basis of the signature and stamp of the designated authorities of the concerned State Government/Union Territory/Chambers of Commerce who pre-authenticated the certificate. It is to be noted very carefully and kept in mind that Ministry of External Affairs does not take responsibility of the contents of the documents.

All of the Educational Degree (Bachelor Degree, Master Degree, CBSE Certificate, Diploma, MS/MD Degree, Engineering, Passing Certificate, etc.), Non-Educational Personal (Experience Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, Divorce Certificate, Death Certificate, Police Clearance Certificate, Affidavit, etc.) and Commercial Business documents (Memorandum of Association, Invoice, Certificate of Origin, Packing List, Power of Attorney, Articles of Association, Certificate of Incorporation, Certificate of Registration, Income Tax Return, License, Stockholders Agreement, etc.)
