Chess is one of few board games that have always been loved by everyone. From royalty to commoners, everyone has felt the urge to beat their opponent on the battle on sixty-four squares and prove themselves better. It is a misconception that chess is a game only for intellectuals. Anyone who is willing to put in the effort to learn can play, improve, and master this game.

However, many chess players play it for long and yet they are not able to improve their game. It happens because they do not focus on the ‘Chess Tactics.’ Learning chess tactics can significantly improve your game as well as convert your tactics into various types of strategies that you can employ to win.

By learning and doing exercises, you will be able to develop your tactical moves. These will surprise your opponent and make him fall into the strategic traps carefully formulated by you. Apart from the tactical exercises, you should also learn positional exercises.

Positional exercises do not have a ‘wow’ factor, however, they comprise of 95% of the game. These may be implemented at any stage of the game even though they are most likely to be used in the middle of the game. With positional exercises, you will use logical thinking, planning, preparing attacks and defenses to stop your opponent’s plans and provoke his/her weaknesses.

You should also focus on studying the game. Too much training and no study will hold you back from improving your game. Theory and practical are complementary in nature and maintaining a balance of both of them is important. You should also take long breaks between the games. This will allow you to analyze your previous game.

You can analyze and overcome themistakes you have made in the previous game. Learning from your mistakes is the best way to improve your game. Make sure the source you have opted to gain the knowledge of the game is authentic. Too much knowledge about so many things will confuse you in the real game.

In chess, you do not need quantity; you need quality. Learn small things each day and practice them until you have mastered them. Do not waste your time on all the study materials; learn only from the best ones. Choose the study that gives you the understanding of the game in a broader perspective. Chess training is not just about tactics and strategies; it is about progressing each day and holding on to those lessons.
