A child psychologist Brisbane is a professional who has special interest in kid’s issues and problems that children face. No matter how much we want to imagine that our children are happy & contented and do not have any fear, they face similar trials & tribulations that we face as adults. They can at times be far more susceptible to a lot of behavioral and psychological disorders as compared to adults.

The role of a child psychologist

First you need to realize that a child therapist is not allowed to prescribe medicine to children. All they do is to determine the cause of the child’s behavior so as to help their parent to counteract the feelings of depression and discontent towards the people around them. For instance, there are children who will suffer as a result of bulling in school and will not inform their parents. This is due to the fact that a majority of them view bullying as a sign of weakness. When they tell their parents, they increase this feeling.

Education psychologist

When it comes to the education field, a child therapist is known as educational psychologist. The role of this professional is to deal with children who are suffering from various problems and disorders that are as a result of stresses and other issues related to schooling. Like we has already noted, this can be as a result of bullying, a problem that has reached epidemic levels. Bullying has caused many schools to find ways of dealing with the problem.

Like you may be aware, bullying is not a simple case of one child or even group of children physically attacking another child. It can be accompanied by name calling, psychological attacks such as rumour mongering and name calling or even mobile and internet attacks.

Many schools are now employing child psychologists to deal with these issues. When kids are bullied, they tend to become withdrawn and this causes their interaction with the people around them to suffer. On the other hand, the bullies may also need help and the child psychologist will try and understand the reasons why they carry out the attack. In most cases, the children who will be doing the bullying will do this as a result of an underlying problem. It could be that the child is undergoing abuse at home. The abuse may not be physical or sexual but can be psychological and this can cause them to become bullies.

Intervention

There are various interventions that can be used. The most common one is through counseling sessions where the child sits down with a counselor to discuss the issue at hand. To get a response from the child, the therapist may use visual aids or learning materials.

There are also indirect interventions that can be carried out with the help of the teachers or parents who will liaise with the psychologist in order to promote the use of some special classes and lessons to engage the child without pressuring them to give answers.
