Bros Doing Yoga

The yoga world today is a female dominated place. Little do most practitioners know that 200 years ago it was the opposite: in India until recent times, yoga was a man’s world. Yoga is actually great bodyweight and functional training. The world needs more Bro Yoga Power. But don’t take our word for it, let’s hear from some of them ale graduates of Yogafirst Middle East Teacher Training Courses who are not just practicing yoga daily but also teaching others how to do yoga.

IVAN VRATSKIKH (Manager & Resident Yoga Teacher: Inta-Ana Studio Jordan) Age 30

Graduate of Yogafirst YTT200 in 2012

Actually I wasn’t the only male during my Yogafirst training: there was one other guy. I was part of all exercises, classes, games. Everyone was integrated regardless of sex/nationality.

I used to rock-climb and after yoga became the primary form of exercise with explorative visits into other kinds of sports/movement such as jujitsu, capo era, calisthenics. I let go the idea (still in the process as thoughts that I should train harder, faster) that I need to be disciplined and  stick to one-two things only.  I enjoy swimming, hiking and occasionally climb. I was bendy as Pinocchio, and with practice became much more flexible. I would say I am at peace with my level of flexibility - I am content with how bendy I am now even and at the same time I am glad that there is a space to grow (limitless).Past 3, years all I do for living is teaching yoga and organizing of events related to yoga: outdoor retreats, workshops, yoga teacher trainings…

RIO NUNGA: (Group Exercise Instructor for Fitness First Dubai) Age 41

Graduate of Yogafirst YTT 200 in 2014

Having 3 sisters and regularly teaching to large number of female participants in my classes, I had no issue being the only male in the course. At no time was I singled out for being male. I teach body jam, body pump, and body combat. When I train myself I focus on cross fit workouts. I value the stretch I get from yoga training as my way to maintain my range of motion and improve my performance in my other workouts. With my background as a dancer I have always been quite bendy but can see definite improvements since I started my Yoga journey.

KAMAL ELDIN SAAD (Sales Manager and Yogafirst Faculty)

Graduate of Yogafirst YTT200 in 2013, Yogafirst YTT300 in 2016

Being employed in sales is a bumpy road and these ups and downs make your mind fluctuate all the time. The presence of junky monkey mind puts you under stress. This leads you to chronic disease. I had been working in pharmaceutical sales for 15 years which was about to lead me to hypertension and depression. Once I started practicing Yoga my life had been turned upside down. As yoga practice ruined my bad lifestyle as I became now more focused and zero stressed. Yoga was what I was searching for; became my real life. It’s now my regular routine and my way to get rid of stress. Yoga brought me a stable mind able to achieve prober job in the real meaning of efficiency. In my spare time I am part of Yogafirst Faculty and travel all over the world for yoga.
