Nostalrius decides to release the source code.

The legacy server has been come up earlier in 2016. Blizzard had met with the Nostalrius team in June 2016. Obviously, the length of time between June and Blizzcon was too long a wait for the Nostalrius administration. What’s worse, before BlizzCon, many people addressed a petition to Blizzard, but there was still nothing about wow legacy server on BlizzCon.
Finally, the Nostalrius team decides to release the source code and additional tools in order to “maintain the Legacy community as much as possible until Blizzard announces an official Legacy plan.”
The source code will be first given to an existing Legacy project, named Elysium. Furthermore, an important part of Nostalrius volunteers are already working there. And Elysium server promised to not receive any profit from this activity.

Did the Nostalrius team release the code too early?

After the news of the server code release, Ion Hazzikostas said in an interview:
"There's no question it's something we want to do," said Hazzikostas. "I am a 2004 World of Warcraft player myself. Tons of us came to work at Blizzard because we fell in love with that version of World of Warcraft. And we met with the Nostalrius developers on our campus over the summer and were really impressed by the passion they had for the game and what they're trying to do to recreate what they see as a lost experience. Obviously there's always the question of doing it in a Blizzard way, in a way that lives up to Blizzard standards as integrated with our other projects."

Did the Nost team release the code too early? Blizzard had said that Blizzcon would not be the place for any vanilla server announcement.
