The hides and skins of animals are the source of leather jackets.  The skin obtained from the big animals like horse and cattle is known as hides.  Skin obtained from smaller animals like goats, sheep and calves.  At house of leathers one can find exclusive color combination due to the work of tanner who work tediously to produce high quality leather hides and skins and for the manufacturing process.  I will brief the process now.  The process involves different stages as follows.

Un-hair:  The skins are hides often have meat and hairs on them which need to be removed to push them further in to the process line.

Alkalizing: This is also known as liming, where the hides and skin are immersed in the alkaloid solutions combined with sulphides so that the properties of collagen present in the hides and skin can be altered.  When it is treated with the liming the collagen present gets altered and swells leaving more open space to continue the process.  They are then left in the pickling until further use.  They can be preserved like this for a period of two years.  One can imagine now how lengthy the process is and how labor oriented entire process is.  No doubt, by the time it reaches for drying and finishing, the cost will be added ten times of its original cost.
