The Vespa was truly the first globally successful scooter. It was the result of Enrico Piaggio’s determination to create a low-cost product for the masses, alas Henry Ford with the car. Manufacturers and market experts were divided from the start. In 1946, Piaggio put 2500 scooters on the market,  then 10,000 the following year. Output top 60,000 units by 1950. Needless to say, the experts were no longer divided.
