It was the result of Enrico Piaggio’s determination to create a low-cost product for the masses, alas Henry Ford with the car. Manufacturers and market experts were divided from the start. In 1946, Piaggio put 2500 scooters on the market, then 10,000 the following year. Output top 60,000 units by 1950. Needless to say, the experts were no longer divided. The Vespa tends to be little higher price than other fast gas scooters, but many feel they are well worth it. Here is a rundown of the cost of the current models (2009) that you can find at your local dealers. The used market for fuel scooters, parts, service manuals, virtually anything you want pertaining to a Vespa, can be found on eBay or Craigslist or any similar service. Tips -If you are going on vacation, say to a resort or Las Vegas, there are many Vespa rental places. It’s a great way to try one out to see if you like it.
