Your Options in Chandler Transmission Repair Explained

New Transmissions

Keep in mind that transmissions from a car dealer or auto shop aren’t brand new. This is because new transmissions are only used on brand-new vehicles from the factory floor. Instead, you’re getting remanufactured transmissions, which aren’t as reliable as new transmissions although their quality (i.e.,performance) are almost similar.

Repaired Transmissions

These are transmissions wherein specific components have either been repaired or replaced.  For example, a transmission specialist can replace a broken input shaft instead of rebuilding the entire transmission from scratch.

Emphasis must be made that as a general rule, only the part that has been replaced will be covered by a warranty. You must take this into account as it can be problematic in the future, such as when a part was replaced but the transmission later breaks down due to an unrelated issue.

Remanufactured Transmissions

These are similar to rebuilt transmissions but with a difference – remanufactured transmissions are made in a factory setting while rebuilt transmissions are made in a shop setting. For this reason, many people can be involved in the entire process.

For example, a team of skilled workers specialize in various areas of the work. These can include repair of the transmission, teardown and inspection of the parts, and cleaning of the parts as well as their final assembly.

Yet another way remanufactured transmissions are made is through brand specialists. Instead of a team making the products, a single person with specialized knowledge in a certain brand’s transmissions performs all the work.

For example, a Ford transmission specialist will remanufacture an entire Ford transmission from start to finish. The finished part is then tested on a dynamometer for performance before being shipped to car dealers, auto shops and other retail outlets.

Rebuilt Transmissions

These transmission are usually disassembled and inspected for possible replacement of damaged or worn parts (i.e., hard parts). The parts are then reassembled according to specific factory specifications, aside from new parts like seals, gaskets, bands, and clutches (i.e., soft parts).

Your trustworthy mechanic may recommend a rebuilt transmission since it’s an easier process with better results. Basically, your car’s old transmission will be removed before being rebuilt and reinstalled, a custom job requiring specialized knowledge and skills. You can only get the service from, say, a reliable Chandler engine repair shop.

Used Transmissions

These are usually applicable for cars with very low mileage. But you have to consider that a used transmission may be the most affordable option but it comes with lesser warranty coverage. You have to decide whether you can afford the trade-off.

And while you’re in the shop, you may also want to consider the Chandler auto glass repair services for your car’s windows and windshield. Your car’s transmissions, after all, aren’t the only important part.
