Ever had a game-changing pitcher substitution that completely surprised you?

Sometimes it looks like the manager’s just making a random move, but there’s usually more going on behind the scenes. I learned that managers look at stuff like pitch count, matchups, and even how a guy’s delivery is holding up. This article really helped me understand the logic in such type of sport https://www.chaseyoursport.com/baseball/how-managers-decide-pitching-changes/10734. I had a similar surprise during a college game where the reliever wasn’t a big name, but he ended up carrying us through extra innings. I also love when the crowd reacts in totally different ways — some people start booing right away, others cheer like the move is guaranteed to work. It kind of adds this extra layer of drama, because you’re not just watching the players but also the energy in the stands shifting in real time depending on how that decision plays out.
