PROCEDURE OF APOSTILLE

Step 1 - Authentication of documents

All original documents/copies requiring attestation from MEA must first be verified by the designated authorities of the State/Union Territory from where the document is issued.

Step 2 – Legalization of documents

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) thereafter, legalizes the documents on the basis of the signature of the designated authorities of the State Government/Union Territory/Chambers of Commerce and issues apostille to the documents.

There are three types of documents apostille procedure-

1) For Educational Documents:

Education Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory+ Apostille

 

2) For Non-Educational Documents:

Home Department or General Administration Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory + Apostille

 

3) For Commercial Documents:

Respective Chamber of Commerce + Apostille.
