PROCEDURE OF APOSTILLE

Apostille from MEA can be executed after attestation is done from the relevant state authorities. For Example in case of Educational Documents, document has to be attested from concerned state Education Department (HRD/GAD) prior to MEA apostille.

Step 1 - Authentication of documents

All original documents/copies requiring attestation from MEA must first be verified by the designated authorities of the State/Union Territory from where the document is issued.

Step 2 – Legalization of documents

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) thereafter, legalizes the documents on the basis of the signature of the designated authorities of the State Government/Union Territory/Chambers of Commerce and issues apostille to the documents.

There are three types of documents apostille procedure-

1) For Educational Documents:

Education Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory+ Apostille

2) For Non-Educational Documents:

Home Department or General Administration Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory + Apostille

3) For Commercial Documents:

Respective Chamber of Commerce + Apostille.
