Refractories for reheating furnace present and future status

Posted by annesheldon on December 2nd, 2016

Refractory raw material has a great impact on type of reheating furnace. The progress of refractory technology and the quality of refractory performance not only affect the reheating furnace structure, but also influence the operation condition, maintenance and service life of the reheating furnace.?Refractories are widely used in metallurgical, chemical, petroleum,?machinery manufacturing, silicate,?power and other industrial areas.

The reheating furnaces play an important role in proce-ssing steel and its alloys for the production of finished products. The steel ingots, slabs or bars are heated in these furnaces to an even temperature throughout their body so that they can be properly rolled or pressed into strip,?plate,?rod, angle or any other shape as required.?The temperature generally varies from 1130' to 1450'c,?depending upon the quality of the steel,?size of the product, etc although the consumption of refractories per tonne of steel for the reheating furnaces is not much, the object for the consumers is to have better and better refractories for getting longer life with less number of shutdowns for intermediate repairs. This will ultimately lead to reduced cost for refractories.

Refractory materials are generally required to have the following properties:

1. Refractory material has steady volume stability and high consolidation strength at high temperature.

2. Refractory material has high structure strength at high temperatures.

3. Resistance to furnace slag and furnace gas chemical erosion.

4.It has anti-melting, high temperature resistance, reduce the wear and tear and other characteristics.
