Optical drive:

In general the word "optical" means vision, or the ability to see. In IT world "optical" means lasers, these lasers are able to see, and read the data on optical discs. CDs and DVDs are the two examples of Optical discs, which are inserted in optical drives. These Optical drives consist of lasers that are able to read the data on the disks in binary language. These are some of the common types of Optical drives such as CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and Blue-ray drives.

Issues:

There are several software issues that arose in optical drives, and many laptop users suffer from some common problems, and the same problems took place in the Alienware M15x. Sometimes the Optical drive does not read the disks, and constantly gives an error when ever a disc is inserted, and some times the optical drive does not eject the CDs, and DVDs either by using the windows eject option, and even by pressing the button on the drive. Software problem can also arise due to a corrupted or outdated driver or the driver is not installed, and requiring you to install a new or updated driver.

How to resolve these issues:

Test with different CDs because there might be some scratches on the original disc or may be damaged to the point of unread ability. If by replacing another disk it starts working properly, replace the CD, and insert a new one. You can also update the firmware of the optical drive because sometimes the firmware of the optical drive becomes corrupted. If the CD does not comes out from the optical drive then it means that the Software might be interrupting the basic operation of the drive, for that Reboot the computer, and press F2 to enter the system setup then press the button to eject the tray of the optical drive by using the button on the drive, after doing so if it ejects correctly there must be a conflict of software which needs to be resolved. Find out the newest driver available, and install it.
