Caring about the environment is a must, especially with the amount of litter that is dumped in nature on a constant basis. This the unfortunate fate of the age of mass manufacturing we live in. It has led us to develop a lifestyle of excessive consumerism.

When it comes to litter, harmful effects differ based on what is thrown away. Items differ from food leftovers that decay fast, to plastics that do not compose at all, but instead pile up in landfills.

In fact, most of the problems with excessive waste is derived from plastic products which is evident with our landfills running at full capacity. To create a disposable product in fact, is expensive for many manufacturers. Many business will rely on old conventional methods for manufacturing, while ignoring environmentally friendly technologies.

Regardless, businesses will manufacture environmentally harmful products, due to market acceptance. This really goes back to the consumer again! Quite simply, in a free market economy, if the wide consumer-base accepts a certain product, then product consumption, then it is going to be widespread. This notion especially applies to numerous commodity products.

One particular product that is manufactured and consumed at extraordinary volumes areplastic dinnerware and particularly, plastic plates. Plastic plates offer high-level convenience including being lightweight,  easily portable, easy to store and easy to dispose. Too easy!

Plastic cutlery, plastic plates and plastic straws end up in our oceans and landfills at an alarming rate. This causes damage to our environment, and the sealife.

According the 2016 statistics of USA disposable cups and plates use, you would find that 218.61 million Americans use disposable kitchen utensils in their homes. That’s almost 63% of the population.

Now, when you consider that plastic plates tend to be the least used of all plastics, you find that the numbers are staggering! According to National Geographic, there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in our oceans.

As you can see, paper plates are commonplace in our busy lives. They won’t go away.  However, now there are better, solutions and eco paper plates are one good example of making things better for the environment.
