A Dive into the World of Hydroponics Farming In Dubai

Posted by StudPac on December 28th, 2016

The rudimentary elements of growing plants are soil and water. There are many countries across the world that have the abundance of these two ingredients but the place like desert have the tendency to have it in short of supply. However, the country such as UAE is not blocked by such problems.

In UAE, there are many hydroponics farms that have the elements necessary for an aquaponics system. But first thing first, hydroponics gardening is one of the important elements of this system. Hydroponics gardening starts with employing hydroponics; employing hydroponics is a method of growing plants using the nutrient-rich solutions barring soil. Dubai supplies products to supermarkets across the world such as lettuce, herbs, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and more.

There are many farms in Dubai with air-conditioned greenhouses has made the process successful and efficient. Some of the management personnel of the farms have said that the quality of products is better than the European products. This has solved many problems related to delay in time and customs. It is quite amazing on how much plants can be grown on a relatively small patch of land using hydroponics. Many of these farms grow lettuce on a site more than 8-10 times smaller than traditional farms.

UAE’s farms can grow lettuce even during summer months. However, in Dubai, outside of the greenhouse, lettuce can only grow for about five months of the year. This is quite fascinating to know how this “agricultural miracle” works. Plants are laid-out in troughs filled with super-absorbent, rich in nutrition, substituted with soil through which water is fed. Any amount of water that isn’t absorbed is sent back to the underground track. Importantly, a traditional farm can blow through 320 gallons of water to produce a kilogram of lettuce, however, these hydroponics farms can only use 10 gallons of water; great savings in terms of water consumption.

A country like UAE is always in search of finding ways to save water. And hydroponics is the best way to achieve that. Continuing with the eco-friendly theme, the ‘wool’ plants that grow is both bacteria and chemical-free. Once there was a claim that not even entirely organically produced plants (which tend to employ manure, a potential source of bacteria) manage to achieve. But, many farms in Dubai proved it completely incorrect.

Many believe that hydroponics farm is the future of agriculture in UAE. The sole reason behind that is it is really easy to create a controlled environment that is capable of growing fruit and vegetable. In overall, the whole infrastructure of the region is growing rapidly. It also comes with an increased need for freshly produced goods.

The government of UAE is also focusing on the perspective of developing an infrastructure and culture that will able to supply all types of hydroponic systems across the country. Many farms are quite sure that they will be able to export to Europe even during the off-seasons. The future of hydroponics system is really good and prosperous in UAE. Experts believe that it is only a matter of time that UAE will be the center of attraction when it’s come to produce hydroponic goods.
