Reasons To Use LEDs In Motorcycles

There are several advantages of LED lights for motorcycles like Harley Davidson over those traditional filament type bulbs. Since last few years, there have been many improvements in the brightness as well as production; now, the filament lamps are being replaced and LED bulbs are being used even in motorcycles.

Yes, they are indeed very useful for classic motorcycles; given below are some of the advantages.

1. Efficiency and power consumption

The major benefit of these lights is that they are highly efficient as compared to traditional ones. During operation, filament bulbs tend to get quite hot and in turn, this wastes a lot of energy.  On the other hand, LEDs are very cool and emit minimal heat. This means that the power rating of LED is high as compared to the traditional bulbs. Only a fraction of energy is needed by LEDs for generating same amount of light. With huge power savings, a lot of difference is made to the bikes and their batteries.

2. Robustness and reliability

Usually, filament bulbs are pretty delicate; they are made of fragile glass and break easily. Even the glowing filaments that are there inside are quite fragile and made up of fine wire. Therefore, bulbs blow often especially, when there is breakage of filaments due to vibration, knocks, bangs and bulbs. In comparison with that, LED lights are known for their robustness and there is no fragile filament inside it, nor any delicate glass.

All motorcycle LED lights are sealed in a block of plastic and don’t have destructible elements. Generally, they don’t break and hardly, there is any need to replace them. Moreover, these LED light units are made up of multiple units and hence, even though one of them stops functioning, the others continue.

3. Beam pattern

These LED lights are omnidirectional; light is emitted roughly in all directions. Hence, a lens and a reflector is needed for converging and focusing the beams and also for directing the light wherever needed. If a person is having a bike with a tarnished or a rusty headlamp, he needs to be very careful. On the other hand, LEDs have beam pattern that is focused; there is an in-built lens and also an emitter. This might differ from few degrees; however, majority of LEDs have the angle between 15 to 45 degrees. An appropriate kind of LED must be selected, according to the applications. This way, the light will be straightly focused to the direction where it is needed.

4. Color of the emitted light

Nowadays, LEDs are available in a range of colors; the wavelengths are determined by the color emitted. Red and orange colored lights are very good for motorbikes.

So these were the reasons why LEDs are being used in the motorbikes as compared to normal traditional bulbs. They offer a lot of efficiency and also, their functioning is quite easy. Moreover, they make a big difference too.
