Copper is one of the most used metallic elements of today’s time. Extensively used in trade, as a chemical, technological instrument, artistic use, industrial application such as copper condenser coil, commercial equipment and many other forms, copper is widely attributed for its easy availability, and exceptional properties that smartly overweigh its counterparts. Here in this post, we have listed five interesting facts about this beautiful metal. Read on to expand your knowledge base.

Fact 1: Derived from the Latin word cuprum, Copper means “from the isle of Cyprus” which is well-known for its copper mines. Fact 2: Copper has been around for more than 100 centuries. The metallic element has been and in some countries is still used as currency. Other uses include, at construction, for trading, manufacture of fine jewellery, in photography, in coils (especially copper condenser coils for ACs, etc.) and more are all archaic in nature.

Fact 3: Copper boasts of a wide range of desirable properties and characterises of transition metals. It is malleable, ductile, soft, an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, and corrosion resistant. However, copper, like other metals does eventually get oxidized to form copper oxide.

Fact 4: Copper is 100 percent recyclable in nature. Its recycle sale value is so high that premium grade scrap metal approximately 95 percent of the original value of fresh copper mined from the ores. It is estimated that nearly 85 percent of world’s previously mined copper is still in use today!

Fact 5: Copper easily forms simple binary compounds which are chemical components that comprise of only two elements. For instance, compounds include copper sulphide, copper oxide and copper chloride.

Fact 6: Copper bags the third position, after iron and aluminium amid the most used metals in industrial sector. Copper is used as copper condenser coil, electrical wiring, building material, cookware and much more.
