There are thousands of aspirants who migrate to various parts of the world every year to complete their higher studies. The global study abroad scene has opened up tremendously for students of all academic backgrounds and interests, but there still certain preset academic standards that need to be met in order to get admission to a college or university abroad. One has to clear the competitive international entrance exams. Good performance in competitive study abroad exams can help you win scholarships and other forms of financial aid.

Popular Entrance Exams

A number of students across the world need to undertake the TOEFL or the IELTS to demonstrate English language proficiency. A large number of universities and colleges accept TOEFL scores, including the top 100 in US, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The IELTS is a mandatory exam for Indians and other non-native English speakers for entry into most reputed colleges and universities overseas, and sometimes for immigration requirements as well.

The IELTS is held over four times a month and the TOEFL is held throughout the year, mostly on weekends.

GRE vs GMAT

The Graduate Record Examination(GRE) is another popular examination among Indian students aspiring to study in Canada or US. This exam is an admission requirement for many graduate courses, especially in science and engineering in the USA. It measures the mathematical, verbal and general analytical skills of the candidate. GMAT is an admission assessment for business colleges. A GMAT score of at least 700 is required for admission into the top schools.

GRE and GMAT exams are held throughout the world in more than 500 locations.

SAT

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is required if you wish to study in the USA. There are two types - the Subject Test to check candidate's knowledge in the subject chosen and the Reasoning Test to check grammar and general writing skills. The SAT is developed, owned and conducted by the College Board of the United States of America.

MCAT and LSAT

MCAT and LSAT are mandatory exams for getting into medicine and law respectively in the USA. MCAT is designed to evaluate candidate's aptitude and knowledge about the relevant subject. LSAT is administered by the Law School Admission Council for students you wish to study law in USA, Canada, and Australia.

Competitive entrance exams are conducted to evaluate millions of applicants who aspire to study abroad every year. Take your time and prepare well.
