Yes, Croatia does have a winter. Yes, we get snow in the north of our country, but also every few years we get snow in Croatia. It’s not a beach-goer’s paradise all year round. So why spend winter in Croatia? Here are just a few reasons.


New Year’s Eve in Makarska


is known for having one of the best New Year’s Eve celebrations along the Adriatic coast. Pair relatively mild temperatures with cheerful revelers warm from rakia and boiled vine, and you’ve got yourself a party. Well before midnight, crowds gather on Kacic square, the main square in Makarska's old town, where bands perform croatian music until the break of dawn.

Museum Night


Have you ever wondered what it’s like to visit a museum late at night, well past regular visiting hours? You can expirience that in Makarska. Museum Night is one of the most popular nationwide festivities in Croatia, drawing thousands of visitors to its museums from 6:00 p.m. to at least 1:00 a.m.


Entry to all participating institutions is free, and each museum organizes its own special events: performances, exhibition openings, concerts, historical reenactments.


Off-season prices and no crowds


As you might expect, if you travel to the coast during the off season, prices will be much lower. You might be able to find accommodation for more than half of what it costs in the summer. Check hotel and touristic agency websites, too, for special wintertime deals.
