Learn About the ?Arrive By? Feature in UberPOOL

Posted by John Smith on January 16th, 2017

In a bid to improve user convenience, Uber is introducing a new feature – Arrive By; this will ensure users receive an estimated time of arrival to their destination. For every time Uber fails to get you to your destination by the estimated time, you receive - to be taken off your next UberPOOL trip.

The Problem With UberPOOL

Ordinarily the UberPOOL service is a great choice. You get to share a ride with someone else. It’s a great way to meet new people. Even more, you get a chance to split the fare and pay half the value of the ride.

However, the real problem lies with the amount of time exhausted to get to your destination. Since you are not the sole passenger, time becomes an uncertain element.

“Arrive By” To the Res

cue?

Uber states clearly in its blog post about the new feature: “Sometimes time is of the essence. When you’re rushing to make a flight or a job interview, you can’t afford to be late. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new uberPOOL feature that offers you peace of mind as you plan your journey.”

On the surface, It seems Uber is trying to solve the time constraints equated with UberPOOL and ensure that riders can get value for their time. Passengers are told when they’ll arrive and Uber provides off their next carpool if they do not get to their destination as anticipated; users are programmed to work with Uber’s timing.

What it really is

This feature does not exactly guarantee that your time is saved. It only tells you how much of it would be wasted. This is more of an FYI feature. Perhaps, this “Arrive By” feature was introduced to have a calming effect on riders who are in a hurry. It really just ensures that you get for your trouble, thereby incentivizing you not

to delete or neglect your Uber app.

Although the “Arrive By” feature was first introduced to Los Angeles in June 2016, the service should spread globally soon enough.

How It Works

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the Uber app installed.
  • Then select UberPOOL
  • Submit your locations for pickup and drop-off.
  • The app will show you the “absolute latest time” you will reach your destination, even if more riders join the trip.
