Public Schools in Westlake Hills: Excellence in Eanes ISD

When planning a move, the quality of local public schools is a major consideration. Families thinking about investing in a Westlake Hills home can check this qualification off their list, as the local Eanes Independent School District ranks among the top districts in the nation, with a few particularly exceptional standouts in each grade range.
Among elementary schools, Valley View Elementary ranks as the number one elementary school in the state of Texas by Niche, and 36th in the nation. Valley View has a K-5 enrollment of about 500 students and emphasizes differentiated instruction, which focuses on each child’s individual educational needs. Principal Jennifer Dusek is highly regarded in the community and continues to maintain the school's Exemplary status in its annual assessment by the state of Texas.
Westlake's West Ridge Middle School also receives a number one ranking in the state of Texas, and comes in at 9th nationally among middle schools. Serving 840 students from grades 6-8 who reside primarily in Eanes ISD's western half, West Ridge focuses on postsecondary readiness by dividing students into smaller learning groups and concentrating on the "development of research skills, writing, and interdisciplinary projects across the curriculum." As part of its mission to help students become well rounded individuals, West Ridge features a music program that has won regional and state honors as well as an extensive athletic program that feeds into Westlake's state-power high school program.
Westlake High School is the crown jewel of Eanes ISD, considered by many not only to be Austin's best public high school, but its best high school overall, and is the only public high school serving Westlake Hills and Rollingwood. First year principal Steve Ramsey oversees the education of over 2,500 students in grades 9-12, and takes over an institution that recently ranked 4th in the state of Texas and 59th nationwide. The school's academic excellence is complimented by impressive extracurricular programs, including a highly competitive athletic department, a hands-on Technical Theater program and an accomplished Orchestra and Band representing the Music Department. The alumni list is impressive, as the football team has produced notable NFL stars such as Drew Brees and Nick Foles, while the Theater Department boasts such alumni as Angela Bettis and Jesse Heiman.
