                                            MBBS JOB PROSPECTS

Due to China’s large population and a fast growing medical market, many hospitals offer job opportunities for international MBBS students. There are medical groups within China that employ foreign doctors including general practitioners and specialists. Job prospects in China or in student’s respective country after MBBS are very great but it depend on several conditions. The degrees awarded by the accredited universities published by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China for English-medium MBBS programs www.hebeinu.org.cn/article/study-in-china.html are recognized across China and a wide variety of countries across the globe. However, if you would like to be a doctor in a Chinese hospital, you have to deal with two matters at first: pass the medical license examination in China and be good at communicating in Chinese. For international MBBS graduates who can’t speak Chinese but still wish to work in China can still do so in foreign resident hospitals and clinics.

As in any other country, each province, however, carries out licensing within China, and foreign doctors can work within China if they fulfill the licensing requirements. For example, Beijing’s licensure exam is conducted in English and consists of a two hour written exam of 100 general medicine questions very similar to Step 3 of the USMLE boards; the second part is a 20-minute oral presentation in English of a sample patient. First reading the case after which you discuss your assessment does this and treatment plans in front of a panel of top-notch medical practitioners.

For MBBS international students returning home to practice also have to take their respective country’s medical licensing examination to be able to practice as doctors. Most of these exams are taken twice in a year and it is important for respective students to know the standards and requirements of the examination. Some of these licensing boards are Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and several other several licensing boards.

In general, it is easier to get employed as a general practitioner than as a specialist due to the nature of practice, although this varies depending on location and staffing needs. Most of these job prospects are located in the large cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu etc.
