Is The RTI Act 2005 Not Implemented Properly?

It is an irony that government policies and acts take a hell lot of time to come into practice due to the dullness and ineffectiveness of the system. You need to understand that the RTI Act 2005 was implemented so that people can file their concerns and seek direct answer or piece of information regarding a government decision. It is important to understand what is working and what not to successfully implement this act.

An ideal system should be digitally sound and encourage for a single window system where a citizen can go and look for information quickly. It is critical to have an intuitive framework that asks the right question and direct the citizen to the right data and information as part of department voluntary disclosure. It is vital that such information system should exist so that we can counter-attack corruption. The aim is to bring efficiency and transparency in the RTI system by bridging the gap between all states on the board.

Seamless flow of information is a key factor in eradicating corruption in the country. It will also support Digital India Campaign and also support the demonetization move. You will be surprised to know that people and government in the eastern part of the country want to drive the change and are quite supportive of making the system agile and smart.

It is the responsibility of RTI activists and experts to ensure that our precious tax money is not wasted at all. More than 50 lakh requests were filed and the total cost came to a whopping Rs. 1557 crore! The irony is that there is no centralized monitoring tool to ensure if the applications received were processed and the information was sent at the right time. Plus, there have been murders in few states due to the RTI application filing that brings a whole lot of shame to this act.

As we all know that the current Right to Information act in the India is not error proof, you will be entitled to wait patiently for hours till the application comes, files are scanned of from the dust stack, and the information is sent via post which wastes lot of money.

As the present system wastes a lot of money, it is important for activists and experts to work out a system and proposed a plan to the government. It is important to build a scalable, fast, and robust system that can help Indians to fetch information ASAP. It will help to make the Right to Information in India successful and efficient.
