DS: Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies ReviewPosted by Branin on August 11th, 2010 A New Addition to the Dragon Quest Series, Following Journey of the Cursed King in 2004 - Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies The Dragon Quest saga is back at full force and exclusively for the Nintendo DS, which to my knowledge has been quite popular in Japan. With the addition of item creation, character classes, and some a brand new multiplayer functionality, you will feel right at home playing the newest addition as the fighting style really feels similar to some of the older games, In my opinion, Dragon Quest IX is a traditional RPG with plenty of things to do, has a fairly simple storyline, but a very humble one, and quite the addictive game to play. At the beginning of DQIX you will start by creating your character with a rather simple character modification screen, you can change your body type, hair, and facial features to ultimately create the character of your liking. After creating your character you will enter the game, DQIX has the exact same fighting style as any other RPG in that the player will control a group of 4 players and select various attacks for each player to preform. The unique feature in this Dragon Quest are the Vocations, which include, Warrior, Mage, Priest, Thief, Martial Artist and Minstrel which will be your default vocation. The main vocations are, Warriors are used for melee, Mage for magical attacks, and priest's for healing, these are the best sets to use and be a well rounded team. There are also a few extra Vocations which can be unlocked as your progress through the game. Also, if the storyline and characters aren't enough for you there are all types of side quests and accolades to compete for, which only adds to the effect of DQIX's multiplayer feel. Honestly I think that is why I like this game so much, as it really almost has a MMORPG feel to it, You are able to add enhancements to your armor which actually improves the look and stats, which is really great for a DS game. All in all I really support this new addition to the series, if the storyline were a bit more captivating and perhaps the characters more intriguing I would rate this game a 10/10, however it is a great title none the less, and very traditional. I would recommend purchasing the game if you are a diehard DQ fan or just someone who enjoys RPGs in general. I really hope you learned a little from this review, and thank you for reading through!
