The 220-volt blender is a must-have kitchen appliance that can be used for making shakes, dips, and dressings, and for preparing ingredients for certain types of recipes. • Immersion versus countertop models – Immersion blenders are designed to be held during operation, so they are also known as ‘handheld blenders’. Countertop blenders are the most common models designed to be placed on the kitchen counter with a vessel on their stand, which bears the controls. A handheld blender may be more practical if you need one for making soups, sauces, and dips from a bowl or a glass. However, you may want to consider a conventional 220-volt countertop blender if you want to use it for other purposes, like crushing ice and making smoothies.
• The motor’s horsepower and wattage – A 220-volt blender is typically labeled with two types of horsepower: maximum hp, which is the power when it is on, and the rated hp, which pertains to the steady horsepower the motor can sustain. However, do not judge a blender’s strength based on the horsepower. Look at the wattage, too, since it will determine how powerful it is. One horsepower is equal to 746 watts.
• The controls – Controls will vary in every blender, but they usually come with three speeds. However, some models may have buttons for special functions like puree, crushed ice, smoothie, and blend, and others have manual controls where you have to hold down buttons. Some 220-volt blenders are advanced with microprocessors for programming blend cycles.
• What it’s made of – Blenders are often made of glass, plastic (polycarbonate), or stainless steel. Glass is elegant and easy to clean, but it can be heavy and breakable. If you want a glass blender, make sure it is thick to avoid easy breakage. Plastic may vary in quality, and it tends to absorb stains and odors. If you prefer plastic, make sure that it is BPA-free and that it has a food-grade vessel. Stainless steel blenders are lighter than glass blenders, but you may not be able to see what is inside during the blending process.
