There comes a time in life when people find the need to replace teeth inevitable.Years ago, people who are a part of the dental profession acknowledged and conceded to patient’s wish and need to avoid an edentulous period that resulted in the fabrication of good quality, safe dentures, which can be placed in the patient’s mouth immediately after the removal of natural teeth.

The present times demand denturists to construct immediate dentures primarily due to patient’s aesthetic and psychological reasons. Correct indication and accurate execution of clinical and laboratory procedures are two important factor that decide the success of these immediate complete dentures.

What is an immediate complete denture?

An immediate complete denture is a restoration for lost natural teeth and associated tissues, which is inserted into the patient's mouth immediately following the extraction of the damaged teeth.

How to take care of it?

You need to remove and clean your dentures daily, using a specifically designed, soft-bristle toothbrush and a mild hand soap or liquid detergent or a denture cleaner.

Regularly cleaning & sanitizing your denture is highly imperative.

Additionally, when you are not using dentures , it should be immersed in a dentures cleaner or water in order to keep them hydrated, and maintain their shape.

Do not place dentures with metal attachments into a denture cleaner to soak, as this may cause them to tarnish.

Never place dentures in hot water to avoid warping.

Immediate Dentures- Advantages:

1. Facilitate mastication, deglutition, and speech.

2. The most important factor is that you will never need to appear in public without teeth.

3. It is also easier to duplicate the shape, color, and arrangement of your natural teeth while some are still present in your mouth.

4. When an immediate denture is inserted at the time of extraction, it will act as a Band-Aid to protect tissues and reduce bleeding.

5. An immediate denture will allow you to establish your speech patterns early.

6. You will not have to learn to speak without a denture in place and then later relearn to speak with a new denture.

7. An immediate denture will also allow you to chew better than without any teeth and minimize facial distortion that may occur when teeth are removed.

8. Immediate complete dentures procedure can help a patient with a chipped tooth repair.

Is immediate denture for everyone?

Not everyone is a candidate for an immediate denture. Some people may be advised against this treatment, due to general health conditions, or because of specific oral problems.
