Posted by jeenniwill on February 18th, 2017

In India, the wedding industry is worth about B. Weddings are taken really seriously in India. As reported by Yourstory.com, it can take up to 6 months to properly execute an Indian wedding.  They are usually big, noisy and require conveying a truckload of family and friends to celebrate the event. This is probably a valid reason for the ridesharing giant- Uber to launch its UberWEDDINGS service across 12 cities in India.

Uber is offering the UberWEDDING service in India to help intending couples plan their weddings effectively. The option helps to structure all travels during the planning stage in one place and also track how much will be spent on travel. Users can also share their rides with guests.

More About Uber Weddings

Uber is teaming up with wedding planners - WedMeGood on this particular project. The service is specially designed by Uber to cater for the many wedding travels that occur during wedding preparations and even on the event day. This partnership clearly shows that the Uber business plan caters to not just Uber partners and drivers alone but also to Uber passengers/riders and their possible needs. This will allow customers to track travel expenses, as well as coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs, parking, and waiting charges. All these are done on a page set aside on the WedMeGood website for that very purpose.

Since its wedding season in India, the service was launched to offer a  "cash-less" mobility solution, providing users with the option of booking a cab using pre-generated promo codes. Also, Uber partners and drivers get to cash as the season will generate more ride requests from wedding goers and even hosts.

Uber allows a user to customize their promo code with the host’s name or their wedding hashtag and have it printed.  If you request a print-out, Uber makes it available within three working days. These promo codes can then be distributed to friends and family as their ride to the wedding.

Availability

The service is currently available in 12 Indian cities (Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, New Delhi, Pune, and Udaipur) and in Washington DC, San Francisco, New York, Boston, and Los Angeles as well. Uber has not shown clear intentions to make this option widely available.

How to Start Using

To get started, users in India simply need to visit the Wedmegood website and follow the clearly illustrated prompts.

What We Think

UberWEDDINGS definitely keys into a India's obviously extravagant cultural practice that could translate into high revenue and an increase in patronage. The service is obviously targets wedding season in different cities as it is expected that UberWEDDINGS will run till February 2017 in India. It is a rewarding experience for all parties involved. The wedding host gets to relax as Uber conveys guests to the location with no hassles. Uber drivers on the other hand maximize earnings as more ride requests equal more income. This is a great time to become an Uber driver as well and take advantage of the Indian wedding season to make more money.
