Questions You Need to Ask When Hiring a Sober Coach

Posted by soberassistance on February 20th, 2017

There are a lot of companies these days that offer sober coaches in Portland. Sober coaches in Portland play a very major role in assisting an addict through recovery. But before you go ahead and hire someone, it is necessary that you do your due and thoroughly research the people who are supposed to help your loved one out. Ask them questions and keep asking them, till the time you are satisfied that they are a good fit.

Many people forget to ask the important questions in the initial stages when they hire sober coaches in Portland. Rather than making sure that they are hiring the right coach, people are, at times, more interested in finding a quick solution.

Certifications

You need to ask the prospective candidates whether they are certified as recovery coaches. If a person is in recovery, it does not mean that they have the required skills to work well with others as well. Ask about where they studied, and if they have ever interned under someone. When they tell you about the school they attended, make sure that you confirm their story and take reference from the mentioned school.

It is an important part of your hiring process to ensure that the candidate has experience that can be verified. Ask the person for references from their clients, and also from other professionals in this field. In the end, you will have to use your own judgment, but make sure you do enough research first.

Insurance

Another important question is to ask whether they are insured and bonded. Any good sober coach generally has malpractice insurance. Make sure you ask them for a copy of their insurance.

Personality

Recovery is not the easiest thing to go through with, and it is very important to know whether the person you are going to hire will match the patient’s personality. This one might take a little time as a person’s personality is not something you can straight away ask them to describe. But having common interests with the patient is very important for any sober coach; otherwise, this would not work. Talk to them till you are convinced.

The Price

Obviously you will be asking how much they charge, but try to remember that you will get what you are paying for. Sober coaches in Portland are supposed to be slightly expensive. So if they offer discounted rates or are low-priced, there is probably something off.

Experience

Find out about how long they have been in the business, and how many success stories they’ve had. You want someone who has ample experience in the field.

It is very important that you take the time out and properly talk to the intended coach. Get to know them, then only can you judge whether they will be the right choice. Recovery is always possible. All it needs is the right help.
