It is a good idea to ask for the adjuster’s background and experience so that you know that they are licensed and have been successfully working in the field. Also, a background check would ensure that they are verified international adjusters.
2.Check their affiliations
Ideally, the adjusters that you hire should be affiliated to the Better Business Bureau, National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters and the Rocky Mountain Association of Public Insurance Adjuster to name a few. You can cross check their affiliations by visiting the BBB or NAPIA websites.
3.Check their website
The official websites of the adjusters would give you an idea of how genuine they are. You can also go through the reviews and complaints on the site and see the way they have responded.
4.Ask for references
When in doubt, reliable references do work fine.
5.Ask for an evaluation of your claim
You need to know if they see an opportunity in the claim and the different fees that you may have to pay. All the details about the contract terms should be discussed in detail and well in advance. More importantly, at the end of the discussions, you should be sure that you understood everything.
6.Ask about their business
You should know the way they function and ask them about the way they handle the claims, whether they have one professional or a team and other relevant details that might help you in deciding whether to hire them or not.
The more you are well versed with the Public Adjusting regulations and laws, the better you would be at taking the decisions.
You should be comfortable with your choice and that can happen only when you haven’t taken the decision in a rush.
9.Understand all your needs and motivation
Before you set out to explain your priorities to your adjuster, you need to be clear about them.
10.Set a communication timeline
You should fix the stages at which the adjuster should be updating you as well as the medium of communication etc.
