Tips For Designing Reception Furniture For Your Office

Posted by Acelin Fenton on March 2nd, 2017

Whether you want to completely redo your workplace or are just looking for a fresh new look, the reception is one area you should never skimp on – first impressions count, after all. This is the first thing potential customers and employees will see upon entering your office. Therefore, you need to think long and hard about what you want the space to say.

Here are our tips for designing reception furniture for your office to make a lasting impression:

1. Colour

Having an array of colours to choose from can make the decision more difficult than if there was just one or two. Keep in mind that a neutral colour palette (such as white, beige, cream and grey) will reflect light and open up the space. If you’re going for a fresh, modern look these are the sorts of colours you should be looking at.

2. Wall Décor & Artwork

Attractive wall décor and artwork can make your reception feel cosier, brighter and more inviting to visitors. What you ultimately choose, however, will largely depend on your branding and culture. If you’re an architecture firm, for example, you may wish to display images of past projects or inspiring buildings.

3. Reception Desks

There are a variety of desks on the market, from straight and curved through to corner, allowing you to select one that best meets the layout and design of your reception. When choosing a desk, ensure that it is at an appropriate height – too high and visitors will have to stand on their tiptoes, too low and they will see the receptionist’s work.

4. Reception Seating

Seating is one of the most important reception furniture choices that you will make. After all, visitors should be comfortable whilst they wait – this will help to put them at ease and to develop a favourable opinion on your company. Ensure that you have ample seating for the number of visitors expected at any one time.

5. Storage & Display

Think about what sorts of items you’re likely to keep in your reception – for most businesses, it’s just some magazines and perhaps a few decorative knickknacks. Ensure that these items are displayed and stored in a way that makes them interesting and reduces clutter. A coffee table is a great option, as is a magazine rack or shelving unit.

How you have chosen to present your reception space is integral to how potential customers and employees view your business. This is why your choices in reception furniture are so important. If you are in the process of redoing your space, don’t let the reception be an oversight and ensure that a big chunk of your budget is set aside for making it welcoming.
