Tips for Servicing Central Heating Systems during Maintenance

While some of the steps in maintenance and check-ups can be done by you, most will require Aga servicing experts to do that for you. Here is a checklist covering three areas which require proper and regular maintenance

  1. Thermostat care

This is the first place that demands regular maintenance and where most boiler repair companies start their checking from. Regardless of the type of heating system you are using whether it is forced air heating systems or hydronic heating systems, the thermostat is the base factor unless another area demands urgent repair. The profession will turn on the thermostat and check on the performance of the furnace. Among thing that can be fixed at this point is short cycling if the furnace shuts down after under three minutes. The engineer will be able to tell if the thermostat needs recalibration or replacements and also check on the adjustment of the fuel or air mix.

  1. Forced air systems maintenance checklist

The Rayburn service technician will first check on the cleanliness of the airways. This ensures you obtain maximum efficiency and also do not affect the inner air quality. Some of the steps in maintaining the airways include checking the filters and changing them where necessary. It is usually recommended that filters be checked once every month and be replaced after every three months.

Another area checked is the ductwork. This is supposed to be cleaned and checked for any open joints which are usually resealed with duct tape. Where some parts have been affected by rust or corrosion, they are replaced or repaired where possible.

The combustion chamber is next and after check-up and fixing any issues, the technician will clean it. The blower area is usually vacuumed and should it be a drive belt blower then he or she checks for proper tension and its general condition. For oil fired furnaces and boilers, the oil filter is checked and replaced where necessary same as the oil nozzle and the right fit is ensured with the right flow rate and angle.

  1. Hydronic heating systems

For these kind of systems the technician checks for any leaks in the pipes and valves as well as the condition of the pipes and valves. The water temperature and pressure is checked to see if it falls within the required range. Further the radiator surfaces are dusted and the baseboard heater fins are straightened and a vacuum ensured. You also get to have your circulation pump lubricated and the whole system drained and flushed if it has been up for five years without a drain and flush.
