The Renter's Dilemma: Horrible, Omnipresent Granite Countertops

Posted by History Countertop on March 13th, 2017

I'm likely going to get into trouble here, but I must say it: I hate sf real granite countertops. But I do not own my kitchen. I am a renter in the initial phases of browsing Craigslist, searching for a brand new apartment. And I'm here to tell you: Granite countertops are taking over!

I actually don't care in rentals where you are inclined to find inexpensive, barfy-appearing versions, especially for sf real granite countertops. I also don't care for the feel of granite. It is cold and hard and every time I place something down on it, particularly a glass, I feel I need to be really cautious. Apparently, keeping them clean seems to take some effort, too.

Additionally, it seems that granite countertops are not really eco friendly. According to the article in Treehugger, granite used to be an area product but is quarried in areas like India and Brazil in conditions where workers' heath may be endangered. Obviously a very heavy material, it's then shipped in containers all around the world. Once installed, granite countertop owners have to be mindful of fissures and crevices where harmful bacteria can reproduce. I know people spend a lot of money installing them in their own house kitchens and these countertops have become popular, but they can be just not my preference.

Landlords, it appears, believe sf real granite countertops frequently tout their existence having an avid exclamation mark or two in their advertising and really are a plus. I've observed lovely apartments that are quite honestly ruined for me. Torn or distressed Formica in brilliant orange or stained white might mean that the granite is an improvement.

Sigh. I figure I need to resign myself to the chance for a granite kitchen but if you or anyone you know who is searching for an excellent tenant in the Bay Area who will happily rent your place without having to 'enhance' the kitchen with new countertops, please let me know!
