Breast Feeding After Breast Augmentation Is Ok

For many women who are contemplating breast augmentation or breast enlargement surgery they are often concerned and confused by the abundance of information on the web if they can safety breast feed in the future. In a recent study presented at the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) conference, it reported that 94% of babies born to mothers who had breast implant surgery were able to breast feed.

The study reviewed the lactation outcomes of approximately 6,000 women who had breast enlargement with either silicone or saline breast implants. This study with over 5 years of follow up reported that women with inframammary or periareolar incisions for breast augmentation could breast feed normally and did not have a greater risk of lactation-related issues than women without breast implants. Also, women who had prior pregnancies before breast augmentation did not experience a greater incidence of lactation-related problems.

This study confirms the results of previous studies that conclude that there is no scientific evidence to show that the breast implants interfere with the process of lactation or breastfeeding.
