Are Private Schools Really Better Than Public Schools?Posted by Branin on August 11th, 2010 The Difference Between Private and Public Schools, Reasons for Sending Your Children to a Private School As parents, it's our job to lead our children down the right path, we want to feel confidante that we have made the best decisions for them at the end of the day, and know we did the right thing. Eventually, as a parent, we are faced with the decision of sending our children to either a public or a private schooling system. This article will hopefully give some information to help you decide what is best for you, and your family. First, I'll start by giving some information on the differences between Private/Public school's and give some insight on what help's other make their decision. - Funding - Over 90% of US children currently attend some form of Public schooling, Public mean's this form is funded by the government (state and federal funding) which means in some form, supported by the taxpayer's money. On the other hand, private schools ( also independent schools ) are not supported by any form of state, local, or national governments, and thus charge their students tuition to attend classes, Religiously affiliated and denominational schools form a subcategory of private schools. In the big picture this allows for a more wide spread funding system, and allowing more opportunity in Independent schools. Academic's - Another large factor is of course the Academic reputation, if you choose to send your child to a Public School you must then abide by certain zoning restrictions which force your child to attend a school in your specific area, which depending on your situation, may in your case be a good or bad thing. If there is a problem in the area, it may be wise to search on the specific school and see if there is a statistically supported issue with a public school's academic record that may cause concern, If so it may be best to choose a Private school that fit's your family's needs better. Private School's often have a much more intuitive learning program and higher Academic Reputations than that of a Public School, if that is your primary concern then perhaps a Private education would be better suited for your needs. Size/Population - This really ties in with the Academics of a school believe it or not, Generally in a Private School there aren't as many students as there are at a Public School, this is not a bad thing however, teachers in the Private school will get more one on one time with their students when they have less kids per class, in this case this will give our kids a better chance at receiving the individual assistance and thus giving them better chances at succeeding. Safety - Another large factor which plays a role in deciding upon your school system is the Safety! Of course many Public School systems provide children with excellent safety, however, depending on our location and other circumstances this may not be the case, if so, then looking in to a private school which supports your needs may be the better option for you. Cost - Likely one of the leading factors in the decision is the Price, as stated before Private School's are tuition based which in most cases will make them much more expensive than public schools. Sadly this is one of the main factors stopping parents from sending our children to Private schools. So, after discussing some of the main factors we try to answer the question of which is better, Public or Private? In my opinion, Higher learning is the largest factor in this question, the reason we send our children to school is so they can learn. Private school's are not based on state approved learning systems, or revolve around learning quota's in order keep their numbers up and receive accreditation, they are not so overpopulated that teachers and principles become fed up and un-focused on teaching. So in this since, yes I would say that Public schools are generally inferior to Private schools when it comes to getting a good education. In fact, my honest opinion is that the only thing Public Schools teach that Private Schools can't in most cases are various life lessons that we may or may not want our kids knowing anyway. My advice is, if you are able to afford the tuition costs and can meet the requirements given by the private school of your choice, then go for it! A better choice could not be made.
