SLAMMA JAMMA? MOVIE SEQUEL IN THE WORKS

LOS ANGELES (April 1, 2017) – The sequel to the powerful basketball drama, ‘Slamma Jamma’ is in the works.

In the original film, which opened in theaters nationwide, five-time slam dunk champion, Chris Staples, plays a man coming out of prison to win the national slam dunk championship.

The sequel will focus on Porter Maberry’s incredible story of who he overcame adversity to win the TNT slam dunk championship at 5’5.

Maberry, who also stars in ‘Slamma Jamma’, is up to the task. “I’m ready,” he says, “bring it on.”

According to Mashable, the first time he dunked he uploaded the video and “the video was uploaded to YouTube on Sept. 25 and Maberry went to bed. But a funny thing happened — his phone kept buzzing with incoming texts. It wouldn't shut up. At 4 a.m. he awoke to messages telling him the video had hit 50,000 views. He went back to sleep. He woke up three hours later. The video had 100,000 views. Within days it had a million. Six weeks later, it's at 1.6 million.

Maberry then went on to win the national slam dunk competition by dunking over Shaq in the TNT finale seen by over 11 million viewers.

Maberry has been touring the country with appearances on ABC, CBS, NBC morning talk shows for ‘Slamma Jamma’.

“So excited for my friend Porter,” says Tim Chey, the director. “He’s a terrific actor and his story is one of the most powerful underdog stories I’ve ever heard.”

The sequel will be filmed in Detroit and London, England for a start date of February 2018.

Chey will not be directing the sequel as he’s currently on location in Hawaii to shoot the large-budget ‘The Islands’ later this year.

SLAMMA JAMMA opened to great audience reviews including a 91% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes on over 1,000 votes submitted.

SLAMMA JAMMA has one of the highest-rated pre-screenings across the country for a faith-based sports film.
