Big Budha temple

This Big Buddha temple is 12m tall. You can easily see it as soon as you land on Koh Samui airport.

The temple is really beautiful and was built in 1972. In local language it is called as Wat Phra Yai. This temple is in shape of a Buddha's statue. It resembles the Buddha sitting in "Mara" posture. This posture symbolizes enlightenment and purity.

You should ensure that you cover your knees and shoulders while visiting this temple. Also, you should carry a good amount of drinking water with you. You will have to climb too many steps and it is hot even in cloudy weather.

The Wat Khunaram Temple

This temple is also a great attraction. Here mummified monk is placed. The monk was named "Loung Pordaeng". The monk's body is displayed in a glass casket. It is kept upright and wears sunglasses. The sunglasses are used to hide the dried out eyes of the monk.

It is said that Loung Pordaeng had predicted the time of his death. The prediction was accurate and he died in 1973. He was 79 years old and died while meditating.
