Steatosis, commonly known as Fatty Liver, is a hepatic illness caused by excessive consumption of fats. Our liver is designed to process fats, however, it can metabolize limited amount of fats. The excess fat gets accumulated in the liver cells. Fatty liver signifies an unhealthy lifestyle and the dire need to change the same. Fatty liver is a very critical condition, which can be treated with a modified diet only.

Dr. Vivek Vij, the top Liver Transplant Surgeon (100% donor success rate) practicing at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, one of the Cost of liver transplant in India suggests the following three dietary rules to avoid the progressive hepatic disease:

1. Consumption of High Fiber Foods

High Fiber Foods help the liver burn excess fats, and process the accumulated fats in the liver cells. Consumption of foods high in fiber avoids the possibility of building up fats in the liver cells. Low fiber foods such as alcohol, fried food and desserts also must be avoided for a better hepatic health.

2. Reducing Fats and Calorie Intake

Dr. Vivek Vij, a renowned Liver Transplant Surgeon and a member of Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT) at ILBS with success rate of liver transplant being the lowest in India; states that treating fatty liver primarily requires one to limit the excessive consumption of fats and calories. Food high in fats causes fatty liver and reduces the liver's ability to perform its functions, affecting the overall health.

3. Consumption of Low Saturated Diet

Increasing the consumption of Low Saturated Diet helps your liver function better, and improves its health. The chances of fatty liver are reduced with consumption of a low saturated diet.

Dietary therapy plays a major role in treatment and prevention of the progressive hepatic disease, Fatty Liver. It is important to reverse this condition and avoid it from developing into a rather serious liver disease. Good Liver health can be ensured with a shift to a healthy lifestyle, however, ignorance of the same, can lead to certain serious complications. Thus, be careful and adopt a liver friendly diet!
