Eanes Independent School District: Home of Westlake High School

For families searching for homes for sale in Westlake Hills, the area’s inclusion in the Eanes Independent School District makes the area even more desirable. The entire K-12 system is consistently rated highly by the State of Texas, and some individual schools are among the highest ranked in the area. However, the gem that makes its home in Eanes ISD is the district’s lone high school.

Westlake High School opened in 1970 and serves residents who make their home in Westlake Hills and the surrounding areas, including Rollingwood. It is located on Westbank Drive off of Loop 360, on a 48-acre plot purchased from a private owner and developed as a home for the school using .9 million dollars in municipal bonds. Enrollment for 2017 is 2,541 students, and shows moderate growth over the past twenty years, up from 2,004 students enrolled in 1997. Westlake High is classified as a 6A school, the highest classification in Texas.

Westlake High School’s academic success has been a focus for the school from its inception. The Citizen’s Advisory Committee that originally supported the creation of the school called for “above-average quality” of education, and “high standards of excellence” in the development of its curriculum. These standards have been maintained, illustrated by consistent and numerous accolades. Standardized test scores are in the top-tier both statewide and nationally, and the school regularly produces numerous merit scholars. The school also advances an impressive number of its student to post-secondary education. According to the school’s website, since 2012, over 98% of students go on to continue their education after high school.

Westlake High offers a well-rounded education, providing extracurricular programs on par with its high standards of classroom performance. The football team routinely excels, making numerous appearances in the state tournament and occasionally producing players who go on to play at the NCAA Division 1 level and beyond. Westlake’s Cheer Program has excelled at the national level, while the boy’s golf and girl’s swimming teams have won numerous recent state titles. The orchestra and band programs regularly compete at the state level as well, and for the 2017 school year, the orchestra had six students named as all-state musicians.
