Structure

Like the particle size, the size of the structure also influences the blackness and dispersibility of the carbon black. Generally, an increase in the size of the structure improves dispersibility, but reduces blackness. Carbon black of a larger structure particularly shows excellent electrical conductivity.

Surface chemistry

Various kinds of functional groups exist on the surface of carbon black. The affinity of carbon black with ink or paint varies depending on the type and amount of the functional groups. Through oxidation treatment, carbon black with a large number of hydroxyl groups have much higher affinity with ink or paint, showing excellent dispersibility.
