Know About How to Convert PAL SECAM to NTSC Using an NTSC Converter

If you intend to use your video playback device in different regions, you will need a device that can read different format standards. A PAL to NTSC converter has the functionality to do this. PAL and NTSC are encoding standards for television video that are used in different regions in the world. Older playback machines cannot read both formats properly, which is why a converter device is required.

PAL, SECAM, and NTSC are television display systems developed for commercial use. Phase Alternating Line or the PAL system is used in Europe and parts of Asia. Sequential Color with Memory or SECAM, which was first used in France, is very much similar to the PAL system and can be read by devices that work with PAL. NTSC or the National Television System Committee standard or NTSC, on the other hand, is the analog system most commonly used in the Americas and other parts of Asia like South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Burma, and some Pacific Island countries and territories.

There are a number of differences among these systems. First is the refresh rate, or the rate of times the screen is redrawn or refreshed. PAL has a refresh rate of 50 hertz at the rate of 25 frames per second. NTSC uses a faster 60 hertz rate at 30 frames per second. With the screen refreshing at a faster rate, NTSC produces more fluid motion on screen than PAL encoding. There is also a difference in the way these systems handle color information. PAL and SECAM systems interpret color information similarly. NTSC however uses a different encoding and requires a converter to decode the color data. This is the reason why PAL or SECAM files played on NTSC systems tend to have color display errors or to display as black and white.

Note that players that run PAL the pal system can run NTSC, but not the other way around. That is where having a converter comes in handy. It allows for NTSC players to play back PAL encoded video files or discs properly. With the help of a converter, you can playback PAL or SECAM encoded discs or files on any NTSC device.
