‘Good knees are a significant part of an active and healthy lifestyle’. But, what if a knee pain stops you from walking long distances? And the ability to move your knees gets restricted due to certain inflammation or damage. This will surely fill your life with complications. Well, a procedure that improves the quality of your life by relieving pain and disability of osteoarthritis is known as Knee replacement surgery. Besides, it is performed for other diseases as well, such as psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Knee replacement surgery is the only option when your knee doesn’t respond to medications and treatments. Earlier knee replacement was considered as a necessity for old people, but these days young people are going under the knife of knee replacement, too. Out of 100 patients suffering from knee pain, only 10 percent are the cases for knee replacement surgery.

Hence, below mentioned are the two different types of knee replacement surgeries that one must know:

  1. Total Knee Replacement Surgery: During total knee replacement, the surgeon basically removes the surface of your bones that were damaged by osteoarthritis or any other cause and thereafter, replaces the knee with an artificial implant which has been selected to fit your anatomy. Here, some special surgical instruments are used by the surgeon to cut away the arthritic bone precisely. Total knee replacement in Delhi and major cities in the country is a very common process and this lasts for 15–20 years. A recent study has shown that more than 95 percent of the patients have shown that they are satisfied with the outcome of their total knee replacement surgery, a year after it is performed.
  2. Partial Knee Replacement Surgery: If only one side of your knee is damaged, you can undergo partial knee replacement surgery. This is an option for a small percentage of people. As the name implies, only a part of your knee is replaced in order to preserve original healthy bones and soft tissues. During partial knee replacement surgery, the arthritic portion of your knee, including bone and cartilage is removed by the surgeon and that area is replaced with a plastic or metal component. It is important to know that partial knee replacement surgery involves less tissue and is less invasive. This surgery offers a few advantages such as faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, less trauma, less pain following surgery and blood loss.

So, is your normal life been hampered by knee pain? Don’t think much, there are several renowned hospitals, such as Apollo Hospital, well known for total knee replacement in Delhi and other metropolitan cities; it is one of the best Orthopedic hospitals in Delhi.
